Quilted Hunting Jacket - Brown

What might seem like a simple piece from us rarely is. This garment-dyed Quilted Hunting Jacket took on a couple forms and went through quite a few rounds of sampling before we found where we wanted it to be. The initial idea spawned from the old Czech military liners, as well as our appreciation for quilted jackets from more traditional heritage brands. Initial rounds were too shiny, too bright, too expensive, but most importantly didn't feel like us. We put it on ice until we found another Korean War-era quilted jacket that was beautifully washed out, the fabric was a bit irregular, the stitching was non-traditional, and all of those things inspired us to take the quilted jacket in a different direction.
We had to develop a fabric that had some irregularity but would also take dyes and washes in a way that we could work with. We also had to tackle some construction hurdles in order to ensure we could quilt both sides, and thus change the construction to work with that. A couple dye and wash tests later we were almost there.
We took cues from our Beachcloth Hunting Jacket, both in construction and fit, to ensure this jacket could be both layered under or over something. And rather than going 1-to-1 with the Czech liner's pocket shape, we saw that style and reverted to our hunting jacket pocket shape we've been using for years, just to help it feel a bit more us. This jacket is one we're super proud of, and is a great execution of multiple references blended into something that really feels unique to Wythe.
