Shawl Collar Overcoat - Tan/Cream Alpaca Twill Tweed

The new Shawl Collar Overcoat comes from a few different points of inspiration. As this collection was largely inspired by the Civilian Conservation Corps, a lot of the outerwear worn by the officers and young men alike were the original Jeep Coat (aka the M1938 Mackinaw Coats) which were these very practical double breasted shawl coats. The more we pored over the photos from the CCC, the more we got it in our heads that we should redo our Shawl Coat. 

This Shawl Collar Overcoat lived somewhere in our imagination between an officer's formal dress, the Jeep Coat, and a practical piece of warm, all-encompassing outerwear, and we developed the fabric around these coats to match.

This is our first time using something other than 100% Wool for our outerwear, but not our first time out with alpaca. This alpaca blend came about from our love of the old Casentino cloth we worked with a few years ago. We loved that it looked and felt like it had been through decades of wear but could still hold up, and this alpaca blend is no different. We worked the alpaca into our usual tweed, and put it through a more rigorous finishing, to give off a more worn, felted look and feel. On top of that, we also loved the immense depth of color these yarns produced - upon closer inspection of the cloth, you'll find a multitude of different tones that make up the cloth's appearance.
